Sustainable Kid's Summer Camp Three sessions of outdoor fun, organic learning and practical community building full of adventure and history. Sustainable Settings Ranch is a child's dream come true! There are chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, sheep, yak and other critters to feed, eggs to gather, garden vegetables to plant and solar buildings to be designed and constructed. Kids get to experience the creation of sustainable systems for safe and healthy human settlement. Daily Activities: Children naturally understand cycles, that one organism's waste is another"s food, that everything is connected. Our children's day camp, and other school programming throughout the year, are based in whole systems thinking with the goals of ecological literacy. We teach with the systems layers of water, energy, soil, land stewardship, greenbuilding, local organic food production, and animal husbandry. Children learn that the choices they make everyday are important and how those choices when multiplied ripple out to affect the building of sustainable places and the lowering of our collective ecological impacts. Wrapped in fun, systems, cycles, and hands-on activities we emphasis the importance of designing, building and living in a world that strengthens the social, environmental and economic aspects of our community. These added together are the primary building blocks for creating sustainable human settlements. ![]() In each learning section we explore the genius of place to find local answers to our needs and ask the question "How would nature heat a space, store water, harvest energy, produce food or build fertile soil?" |
